Last night our neighborhood celebrate National Night Out. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's basically a neighborhood party where the police, city council, and resucue squads make an appearance. It is sponsored by the city and we had a lot of fun. Not every neighborhood does it, just the neighborhoods who have someone that sets it all up. Lucky for us we have very involved neighbors who host it every year.
One thing that is great about our neighborhood is beside one other little boy, our kids are the only kids under the age of 10. Most of the neighbors are grandparents who miss their grandkids. Score for us because we have kids who miss their grandparents!! So last night our kids where completly spoiled rotten. We have an amazing couple who live next door whose names are Ron and Phyllis. They are both retired school teachers and they have become our Nebraska Grandparents. My kids love to go over to their house and play and me and Ty love to visit with them. Well they are the couple that arranged the party so the kids got to help set up and they made sure the kids had the best time and got to experience everything and meet everyone!
Porter setting out the barricades to block off the road.
Ron and Landen setting up the other barricade for the road. (You would think if people saw a bright orange barricade with caution tape connecting them they wouldn't drive down the road right?...but that didn't stop some people. Oh well...)
Hattie getting settled in to eat her hot dog.
The fire truck was by far our boys favorite visitor of the night. (I know you would think it would be the people running for mayor that came, but nope they loved the fire truck:)
Landen taking his turn to drive the fire truck.
Ron and Porter ready to go fight some fires. Ron made sure that Porter had an opprotunity to do everything on the fire truck. Thanks Ron.
Porter, Hattie, and Ty checking out all the equipment on the truck. Hattie wasn't a big fan of the truck. She did get in once, but that was to check out their boots (sorry no pics) it didn't last long though. We don't know why she was so scared the did have the lights flashing, but no the sirens going. We are wondering if maybe its because the last time she saw a fire truck she ended up going for an ambulance ride. (Hey maybe someday I'll post that story its an exciting one)
Porter standing on top of the fire truck. He wasn't to sure about being that high
On the other hand Landen thought it was awesome to be able to climb that high and be on top of the truck.
As you can see our kids loved the party! I didn't get pictures, but we did have the K-9 unit come and the Chief of Police come along with the 2 people running for Mayor (Wahooo). They all brought the kids lots of fun stuff so they thought it was great. The ambulence didn't get to come because they got a call, but I was kindof grateful after seeing how Hattie reacted to the fire truck. Oh yes my favorite visitor was the Schwan man who brought fudgesicles and bompops! Yummy!!
