Pottery Barn isn't getting my money!!

So I was looking at Pottery Barns website trying to find some things for Halloween. Well I saw a witches broom they had, but it was $99. CRAZY!!! I kept going back to it and thought I could make that so easily....So I did. I tried downloading theirs, but I don't know how to us an apple computer so you only get my pics. You can check out theirs if you'd like. All I did was cut a stick and about 12 twigs. I left some leaves on to give it more character and I spray painted the stick and twigs with black gloss (It took 2 cans to make it all cover really well). I then hot glued and wired the twigs around the stick. They had used something that looked like rope to cover the twigs around the top, but the only rope I have was white and just turned gray so I went to Michaels and bought some Halloween Ribbon. I liked that it added some color. So there you have it simple, easy, and cheap:)

My kids ask me if it really is magic and can fly. I told them I fly on it at night because I really am a witch:) Landen then asked me why I drink water if I am a witch because water should make me melt:) What a smarty!!!

2nd Weekend Camping

This past weekend we had another free weekend. This rarely happens that we can just up and leave for a whole weekend, but we were so grateful to be able to go camping again and have some family time. This time we even planned during the week so we didn't have to stop and grab things at Wal-Mart or grab dinner on the way. The only thing we didn't do was reserve a spot at Mahoney. We really want to go and see what its all about there. Everyone says its a great place to camp. Well we arrived this time at 4:30 P.M. and well the camp ground was already full again. The Park Ranger working was the same guy as the week before so we told him thanks for pointing us to Memphis and we decided to go there again. It really is a nice little campground. If only they had flushing toilets instead of outhouses....Oh well its only for one night:) We got to our campground and this time got to set up the tent in the daylight. Landen really wanted to go fishing, but we told him right after dinner he could go. Last time we went camping we forgot our fishing licenses so he was bummed that he didn't get to go fishing.
Paisley, Ty, Porter, Hattie, and Landen standing by the lake. Landen is finally fishing!
Hattie was the first to catch a fish. She didn't know what to think of the catfish, but she was really sad when Ty threw it back in instead of her.

Landen still trying to catch something. We put a frog (a fake one) on his pole so he can just cast and reel back in. So he will stand there for a really long time just casting a reeling.
Hattie playing with HER worms. She was so funny she would just grab them and talk to them like she was her mom. In fact the next morning she said she needed to go find the worms because they were whining and they wanted their mommy. Well when Ty went to go get the worms there was only one worm left. She told Ty that Paisley let them all go. She later fessed up to releasing the worms to their mom.
Porter with his pan fish he caught.
Paisley reading a good book while the kids were fishing.
After all his hard work he finally caught a fish!! He did decide to switch from his frog to a worm and just wait. He is our fisherman!
The next morning the kids spent the whole afternoon playing in the dirt/ash, fishing, and going to search for an adventure! They all had a lot of fun camping. So much so that when we got home they asked if they could go camping in our backyard that night. Hopefully we will be able to make it out camping one last time before it gets to cold.

1st Weekend Camping

So this post is over a week late, but hey better late then never right? Ty got home from work around 4:00 and we were trying to decide what to do with our night and spear of the moment idea we decided to take the kiddos camping. So we hurried around the house got things packed (well at least we thought we had everything) grabbed some sandwiches from our favorite Jimmy Johns and headed to Mahoney State Park. Well at least that was our plan. We got there and the place was already full (it was about 7:00 P.M. by the time we got there). The nice Park Ranger suggested going to Memphis which was about 15 mins away. So away we went. By the time we got there the sun was down. So by the light of Ty's headlights from his truck he pitched the tent and got sleeping bags out. I started a fire and we all got settled in for the night. The kids love sleeping in a tent so much they really just wanted to go to bed. We convinced them to sit by the fire long enough to warm up and then they headed off to bed.
All the kids enjoying the fire.
Oh no what happened to Ports Head??? He told us on the way there that he wanted to tell spooky stories by the fire. So I guess he had to be headless to tell us the stories.
There is nothing better than a nice hot cup of cocoa in the morning to warm you up! I think this is the reason I like to camp:)
Paisley thinks there is nothing better than a nice bottle of hot cocoa in the morning. She thought this was great!!
Our very own rugged mountain man! Yep he is cooking sausage over the fire for our Mountain Man breakfast that was in the dutch oven. It was one delicious breakfast. The kids ate it right up!!
Even though this campsite didn't have flushing toilets it was a lot of fun!! There wasn't a lot of people there and the kids got to run free!!

After all the playing is there nothing better than a nice nap under a shady tree:) Pais sure thought it was a great idea.
